Bianchetto (Tuber borchii)
Synonyms
- White Truffle
- Summer White Truffle
- White Spring Truffles
Description
Distribution
Tuber borchii fruits throughout Europe and can be found in various locations including Finland, Sicily, Ireland, Hungary, and Poland. They favor well drained sandy limestone soils but can also grow in areas where black truffles (Tuber melanosporum) are found. Pine trees are good host trees for the bianchetto truffle.

Bianchetto truffles maybe easier to farm as they are naturally found in soil with a wider soil types and pH range than T. melanosporum. Bianchetto can be found in very sandy soils with pH ranging from 4.5 to 8.5 with an optimum of 7.8 (Morcillo et al. 2015). The Bianchetto truffle is successfully farmed beyond its natural range in Australia, New Zealand and the USA (California and North Carolina).
